# PasteCloak

> PasteCloak is a local-first desktop app for macOS and Windows that stops secrets from leaking when you paste. Press Cmd+Shift+V on Mac (Ctrl+Shift+V on Windows): PasteCloak scans the clipboard on-device for API keys, tokens, passwords, database connection strings and private keys, shows what it found, and pastes a masked version into ChatGPT, Claude, Slack, a support ticket or any other app. It keeps no clipboard history and needs no account.

## Key facts

- Platforms: macOS (menu bar app) and Windows (system tray app). Status: the beta runs on macOS; the Windows version will be available at launch. Standard and Pro licenses are available for pre-order.
- How it works: copy as usual, press Cmd+Shift+V on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+V on Windows, PasteCloak scans locally, previews what it caught by category, then you paste the sanitized version (placeholders such as [OPENAI_API_KEY_1]) or the original. Your call, every time.
- What it detects: API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, GitHub, GitLab, Stripe formats), Bearer tokens and JWTs, hardcoded passwords in code and .env files, Postgres / MySQL / MongoDB / Redis connection strings with credentials, PEM and SSH private keys, plus user-defined custom rules.
- Privacy model: detection, preview and sanitization run entirely on the computer. Clipboard content never leaves the device and no clipboard history is kept. The network is only used to install and deploy the app (for example silent MDM rollout by IT), never to transmit clipboard data.
- Limits: no tool can guarantee it catches everything. PasteCloak reduces the risk of pasting a secret; it does not eliminate it.
- Difference from a clipboard manager: PasteCloak is a security tool and keeps no history. Difference from enterprise DLP: no cloud monitoring and no IT rollout needed for individuals.
- Why it matters: in Cyberhaven Labs research on 1.6 million workers' clipboard activity, 11% of what was pasted into ChatGPT was confidential.

- Pro: EUR 39, one-time license. Unlimited custom rules, automatic sanitization for trusted categories, high-entropy detection, per-app settings, rule import/export. Founding-member price: EUR 25.
- Business: on quote, annual, per seat, from 5 seats. Silent deployment via Jamf, Kandji or Intune, shared rule sets pushed to every Mac and PC, locked settings on managed machines, central licensing, priority support. Scanning still happens on each device.
